HILLSBORO – The Portland Boltz’ inaugural game Saturday night at Hillsboro Stadium lacked competitive drama but not in its generation of exciting, big plays.

As expected, the Boltz, of the PDFL, made easy work of the Puget Sound Outlaws, of the WWFA, by winning 68-6 in front of several hundred spectators.

“We got in the work we needed for our first game,” Boltz head coach Aaron Fentress said. “I expected us to make a lot of mistakes and we did. But I also expected us to put up numbers and we did. We thank the Outlaws for making the trip down to play us. Most teams outside of our league (PDFL) lack the guts to play us and hide behind politics and excuses. These guys stepped up to the challenge and showed a lot of heart. We respect them for that.”

Boltz quarterback Russell Schneider threw four touchdown passes, three to wide receiver Nick Bodeman. The plays covered distances of 50, 30 and 18 yards. Bodeman now has 25 touchdown receptions over his last 12 games, a Northwest adult amateur record. Schneider has 63 touchdown passes over his last 12 games, also a record.

Schneider also threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to tight end Drew Dukeshire on a play that was intended for wide receiver Ervin Sims. Sims jumped for the pass in the right corner of the end zone and ended up tipping it toward the middle of the end zone where Dukeshire came up with the ball.

The play, like many on the night, induced a loud roar from the excited fans.

“We had great fan turnout for our first game and they were into the contest from the start,” Fentress said. “On each big play we made you could see the fans stand and cheer loudly. It was exciting. And our dance team (Lady Boltz) rocked it. They are awesome. We really have a great atmosphere working and it will only get better as the season moves forward.” READ MORE
